Organisations with which we are associated:

The Classical Association of Western Australia
This association has been running for many years. Its members are students past and present, as well as other interested members of the community. Activities normally take the form of public lectures, given by visiting academics or by members of staff. Supper afterwards provides a chance to meet the lecturer and chat with other members, and is always well attended.

Adeste Humaniores
Adeste Humaniores
is a community-based group created to coordinate the interests of organisations that support the study of the Ancient World. Adeste Humaniores has the support of The University of Western Australia through the department of Community Relations, and was officially launched on 3 October 1999. Contact: Joanne Smith

Ancient History Association of Western Australia
This organisation promotes the study of Ancient History in secondary schools. Most members teach TEE Ancient History, and in addition they have firm links with Classics and Ancient History at UWA. Events include: an annual competition in Ancient Drama for schools; an annual seminar for TEE students; professional development days, hosted by UWA, for those teaching Ancient History at secondary school level; participation in major conferences; social evenings, etc.

The Western Australian Friends of the Australian Archaeological Institute at Athens
Founded in 1989, this organisation (WAFAAIA) has established strong links with Classics and Ancient History in this State and with the Australian Archaeological Institute at Athens (AAIA) which has its administrative offices in Sydney and Athens. The WAFAAIA aims to support the work of the AAIA. By doing so, it assists research into Greek history, literature and archaeology. It seeks to facilitate projects and discussions among academic university staff and students, and to promote such interests in the community at large. The WAFAAIA provides financial assistance for young scholars to travel to and to work in Greece; it has given considerable support to one of our research ventures; it has donated a multi-media computer for use of our research students; and is a strong participant in the mounting of public lectures. The current President is John Melville-Jones

Roman Archaeology Group (RAG)
RAG was established in 2004 to develop and promote Roman Archaeology through the dissemination of information on the subject and to generally raise awareness of Roman Archaeology in our community. Members receive our regular newsletter, the RAG, and can attend our regular lectures and other activities. The current Chair is Prof. David Kennedy.
